2005 Acura RL A-SPEC
What's Special About It?
The RL may be the most expensive and least aggressive car in the Acura lineup, but that didn't stop Acura from introducing an A-SPEC performance package for its new top-of-the-line sedan. Like the TL and RSX packages introduced last year, the RL's A-SPEC treatment includes a revised suspension setup and larger wheels and tires. Track-tuned shocks and springs are the biggest changes that come with the A-SPEC kit although the larger 18-inch alloy wheels are the most visually noticeable upgrade. Also included in the package is an aero body kit with a rear deck spoiler that adds a hint of aggressiveness to this otherwise tame sedan. The A-SPEC kit can be added by any authorized Acura dealer at a cost of $5,500. For those who only care about adding performance and nothing else, a performance handling kit that includes the revised suspension and larger wheels will also be available when the package goes on sale in the spring of 2005.
What's Edmunds Take?
The RL is a surprisingly nimble handler given its roots as a luxury car, but we would be surprised to see many customers going for the A-SPEC kit given that it pushes the RL to nearly $55,000. There are plenty of solid sport sedans available at that price, most of which don't need a sport package to make them perform. — Ed Hellwig
