N.Y. Show: Acura MDX Concept Previews '07 Redesign

NEW YORK — Acura calls it a concept, but the vehicle on display here is a surprisingly accurate representation of the second-generation MDX utility vehicle the goes on sale this fall.

The MDX Concept takes an evolutionary design path, compliments of Honda's California studio. Its most notable feature is a more prominent shield grille, flanked by narrow xenon headlamps. Acura's press material likens the exterior lines to "a high-powered megayacht;" we see a slightly fancier MDX.

A wider track and a longer wheelbase give the vehicle a bit more presence than the current model, while 20-inch wheels and tires provide a more aggressive stance.

Acura executives declined to provide any details prior to the vehicle's production launch this fall, but Honda insiders suggested the '07 model will get a version of the larger 3.8-liter V6 the graces the RL sedan, with around 300 horsepower on tap.

What this means to you: A bolder face and a bit more power might not be enough to separate the MDX from a crowded field of premium utes.
